Intuitive 4 Life
I have been on every possible diet (fasts, no carbs, liquid, points), you name it. All I did was lose weight on each one, only to REGAIN MORE weight after I went off each diet. I have finally stopped gaining weight and am learning to trust my body. I don't feel deprived. I feel free. This is no gimmick, it's hard work and I wished I knew about this years ago.
I'm Finally Free of Food-Worry and Dieting
No more anxiety and obessive thoughts about food. I thought that eating anything I wanted would lead to more overeating of the junk food. But dieting hasn't work for me. To my surprise, I've discovered now that I can eat whatever I want--I don't have the same high urge. I actually taste my food, and some foods that I lusted for, no longer have the same appeal. I still love ice cream, but it no longer drives me and I can stop now when I want to, without a big deal. Ms. Tribole and Ms. Resch aren't promoting junk food diets, they are advocates of freedom from dieting and overeating forbidden foods. You've got to read the book.
Just a remake of the Weigh Down Diet
This isn't anything new...Gwen Shamblin came out with this ten years ago with the Weigh Down Diet. In fact, it is dangerous. I started to eat fats moderately after being on low and no-fat diets for years and I ended up having severe gallstones and spent five days in the hospital before my system calmed down so they could surgically remove my gallbladder! I have never been obese and have only been a little overweight, so this shouldn't have happened. Sugar addictions are too strong to overcome by just listening to your body's cues. Too much leads to diabetes. It could be eliminated from the diet without consequence, but on the Today Show, Ms. Tribole was pushing high sugar, trans-fatty foods as okay for you!!!! We are smarter than this! DON'T BUY THIS BOOK!!! It just promotes bad medicine and make them rich.
Saw it on Today Show
I saw this book being promoted on the Today Show this morning, and it reminded me of a book I read two years ago that helped me lose weight during the holidays....."The Overfed Head." This concept is truly the ONLY way to lose weight, and the way our ancestors kept their figures (obesity was a rarity then). Both books sell for about ten bucks, so splurge, get them both, and start losing weight before the new year.
We are no longer in an intuitive world
This book relies on the supperficially intuitive idea that our bodies know what they need for good health and well being. The surface logic of this argument breaks down when you realize that we are no longer living in a natural world. The book really ignores the well accepted fact that certain foods trigger chemical reactions in the body that turn on hunger signals and prompt overeating. There is a reason people can't eat only one cookie or one potatoe chip. Our bodies are hard wired to overeat surger and salt containing foods becuase in the natural world, these things are rare and precious. In our bloated high processed world, our bodies are being given incorrect cues all the time.

Certainly, if you are eating lean poultry and fish, broccalli and fruit, you can trust your body to let you know when its had enough. But if you already have problems with overeating or binging, you are not going to solve them by simply giving yourself permission to keep eating the foods which chemically induce your body to want more.

Food is an emotional issue, but it is also a physical and chemical one. Combine the fact that most people who turn to this book will have long ago lost the ability to discriminate real hunger from emotional hunger due to yoyo dieting with the devestating effect of processed foods and you have a real problem.

Beware this book.
