Health Books about pregnancy

What is pregnancy?

Pregnancy is the carrying of one or more embryos or fetuses by female mammals, including humans, inside their bodies. In a pregnancy there can be multiple gestations (for example, in the case of twins, or triplets). Human pregnancy is the most studied of all mammalian pregnancies.

Human pregnancy lasts approximately 40 weeks between the time of the last menstrual cycle and birth (38 weeks from fertilisation). The medical term for a pregnant woman is "genetalian," just as the medical term for the unborn human is an embryo (early weeks) and then "foetus" (until birth). A woman who is pregnant for the first time is known as a primigravida or gravida 1: a woman who has never been pregnant is known as a gravida 0; similarly, the terms para 0, para 1 and so on are used for the number of times a woman has given birth.

In many societies' medical and legal definitions, human pregnancy is arbitrarily divided into three trimester periods, as a means to simplify reference to the different stages of fetal development. The first trimester period carries the highest risk of miscarriage (natural death of embryo or fetus), while during the second trimester the development of the fetus can start to be monitored and diagnosed. The third trimester marks the beginning of viability, which means the fetus can survive if an early natural or induced birth occurs. Because of the possible viability of developed fetus, cultural and legal definitions of life often consider a fetus in the third trimester to be a distinct living person.

SUCH A GREAT BOOK
Out of all of Sarah's books (I've read quite a few) none brings a learch to my heart when i hear it's name like Someone Like You does. This book was written so well and real. I couldn't put it down, i finished it in two days. I stayed up until late late hours reading it.
This book seems like it deals a lot with freindship. WHich it definitely does. Scarlett and Halley are best friends, and Scarlett has always been there for Halley, and now its Halley's turn to be there for Scarlett. And its hard for her. Even as im writing this i realize how cheesy and cliche it sounds, but in the book it is all very real and beleivable, none of those things.
I thought this book would deal mainly with freindship. But it doesn't, it involves relationships, virginity, pregnancy, its actually just as much about that as about freindship. And once again, not at all fake sounding. I loved Macon all throughthis book, even though he was supposed to be made outas a jerk at some parts.
It also deals with teenagers and how they deal with their parents.
GREAT GREAT GREAT BOOK!
i highly reccomend it!

A very well written book about two teen friends growing up together!
This book was so real that every girl would have gone through this stage at least once in her life. The stage when whatever your mother says seems like meddling and like she is trying to control your life or the stage when you can't decide that should you give your virginity to the guy, who you think you love and you think he loves you too, or you should still wait? For whom you are not so sure but you are sure that you are not ready, but still you are willing to do it so that you just don't loose the guy. But the thing is that like Scarlet said if you do it and he goes away anyway then you have lost more than just him! It's so unfair the way guys push girls to surrender their virginity and then make them feel guilty for not being ready!
I am sorry for not using Healy and Macon's names here but I just can't help seeing them as just two typical teenage girl and boy. Healy is a good girl although occasionally she feels resentment towards her mother for trying to control her life but still she is girl who would never dream of disappointing her parents. And Macon is a bad boy. He misses school, forges parents' and teacher's signatures, and does just about anything if he thinks he could get away with it. So you can see why Halley is so attracted to him. His wildness and carefree attitude attracts her and he is also attracted to her so the romance blossoms. That was the good part. But then they have passed the stage of just talking and mooning over each other so now Macon wants to go further. Halley is not so sure she is still ready for it. She might have done it if not for her best friend, who herself did it just once with a guy who died the next day and she turned up pregnant. Scarlet tries to stop her from giving into Macon's demand but since Halley doesn't want to loose him, which she thinks she already is loosing him, she makes up her mind to just do it. I know a lot of teenage girls decide to do it just to hold onto the guy not because they really want to and that's sad.
This is also a story about two best friends who always support each other no matter what. How having a friend like Halley made a difference in Scarlatt's life? Scarlett's boyfriend died the night after she lost her virginity with him. Scarlet thought that life couldn't get any worse because she loved him but the she came to know she was pregnant after doing it just once!!!! But still she remained strong and decided to have the baby. Halley supported her in whatever decision she took without questioning her wisdom.
Halley was not perfect. She was not a perfect friend either because when scarlet tried to stop her from sleeping with Macon she used her pregnancy as a weapon against her telling her to `look who is talking'! And in the delivery room she got scared and ran away and left scarlet alone. She was not a perfect daughter. She lied to her parents, sneaked out with Macon at night. But still she was good. At least she was too good for Macon anyway! And the fact that Macon couldn't forget her months after they broke up (as his girlfriend told Halley that he still loves her ), I could only guess it must be so only because she refused to give her virginity to him. If she would have given him what he wanted I am sure he would have lost interest sooner.
The best thing about this book is that it is about real people with real problems. This book is the kind I like to read again and again. So just go and buy it and I promise you won't be sorry.
this was so good
well i started reading t his book a couple days ago, but today i sat down and i couldnt put it down. this book was tremendous. its filled with voice and visuals i could see everything going on i love this book! although i want her to wright a 2nd book finding out what happens with the baby and her x boy friend.
Loved It.
"Life is and awful place to not have a best friend."

I Believe that is the quote stated on the back cover of the book, and I highly agree. Someone Like You shows what friendship really is, and sticking through the hard times. It shows when you feel like the weak friend, you turn out to be the strongest one. Scarlett goes thru a rough time by sleeping with a boy that she loved, and the next morning he died. Halley helps her thru her choices and learns some new things herself, but in the process she finds herself terribly hurt, by her pressuring boyfriend, Macon. I highly recommend this book. It maybe inappropriate for younger kids though, it all depends on what you call inappropriate.
Sarah Rocks!
I am catching up on all of Sarah Dessen's books and they are each and every one thoughtful and moving and real. This is a wonderful book about first love, and it will stay with you. The only problem is that the book has to end! For another first love book, try WILD ROSES by Deb Calletti. It's amazing, and they both have deeper meaning and characters that you forget aren't real people.
