Health Books about pregnancy

What is pregnancy?

Pregnancy is the carrying of one or more embryos or fetuses by female mammals, including humans, inside their bodies. In a pregnancy there can be multiple gestations (for example, in the case of twins, or triplets). Human pregnancy is the most studied of all mammalian pregnancies.

Human pregnancy lasts approximately 40 weeks between the time of the last menstrual cycle and birth (38 weeks from fertilisation). The medical term for a pregnant woman is "genetalian," just as the medical term for the unborn human is an embryo (early weeks) and then "foetus" (until birth). A woman who is pregnant for the first time is known as a primigravida or gravida 1: a woman who has never been pregnant is known as a gravida 0; similarly, the terms para 0, para 1 and so on are used for the number of times a woman has given birth.

In many societies' medical and legal definitions, human pregnancy is arbitrarily divided into three trimester periods, as a means to simplify reference to the different stages of fetal development. The first trimester period carries the highest risk of miscarriage (natural death of embryo or fetus), while during the second trimester the development of the fetus can start to be monitored and diagnosed. The third trimester marks the beginning of viability, which means the fetus can survive if an early natural or induced birth occurs. Because of the possible viability of developed fetus, cultural and legal definitions of life often consider a fetus in the third trimester to be a distinct living person.

Liked it but found something more updated
I ultimately chose The Leclaire Method ,I used their Leclaire Hypnobirthing Bundle for Happy Hypnomoms and Blissful Hypnobabies because it addressed more issues that I felt were relevant and also they had Cd for pregnancy and one for labor and birthing.plus a music Cd for Baby brain development. They are both good but one is more comprehensive.
very educational
My husband and I are taking the Bradley classes for natural childbirth and this book was required reading. It is easy to read and very educational. The book is realistic (doesn't claim to make childbirth painless) and detailed. I would highly recommend it to anybody expecting whether or not natural childbirth is your goal.
Keep an open mind!
This book was both good and bad.

Good because it gives readers detailed descriptions and pictures of what a woman's body goes through during each of the 3 stages of labor. It even goes as far as giving an emotional map of what the woman will be going through and how her coach (or husband) can reassure her.

Bad because the premise of it is that childbirth should be natural and drug free. In keeping true with this belief, the book almost uses scare tactics to convince women that accepting even the lowest dose of anethesia can be harmful to her. As a first time mom-to-be who has no point of reference when it comes to labor, after reading this book, I was truly afraid of anything that nurses/doctors would offer me to minimize pain should it occur.

Should you decide to purchase this book, I really recommend you also get another perspective on the birthing without medication issue, preferably something that does not scare you so you can make an informed decision when the time comes.
Love it!
This book is excellent. It has changed me from someone who was ready to be knocked out for an elective C-section right now, into a firm natural childbirth fan. Fingers crossed it works. The one thing is, the pictures of women in the process of giving birth are a little graphic, could have done without that.
Natural Childbirth the bradley
I think this book is some what helpful and gives information that you can get through reading this book instead of going to the bradley classes and this is much cheaper.
