Health Books about infertility

What is infertility?

The International Council on Infertility Information Dissemination (INCIID) considers a couple to be infertile if: they have not conceived after a year of unprotected intercourse, or after six months in women over 35; there is incapability to carry a pregnancy to term. Healthy couples in their mid-20s having regular sex have a one-in-four chance of getting pregnant in any given month. This is called "fecundity".

Reviews:

Outdated information
I made the mistake of purchasing his older book called The A.R.T. of making babies updated edition. Do not buy unless your doing a research paper. This book was written in 1998 and the information is outdated. Make sure you purchase the 2005 edition. I wish amazon.com would have made this clearer. I did read it anyways and had the book been filled with updated information it could be informative. I found the "Couple's guide to In Vitro Fertilization a much better book. Having recently gone through the procedure it was right on the money and very easy to read and understand.
Good source of information
My husband and I recently found out that IVF was probably our only hope at having a biological child. We live in an area where IVF is basically non-existent... as is the information that we've received. I wanted to find out everything I could about the IVF process, expenses, etc. This book was an excellent source of information from fertility testing, to the entire IVF process. It also went into depth on new procedures that can be used along with IVF. VERY inforamtive, and I would recommend to anyone craving knowledge about IVF.
This is the NEW edition of The A.R.T. of Making Babies!
I noticed the review from KK "Current IVFer" below and wanted to to say that this is the NEWEST edition of In Vitro Fertilization: The A.R.T. of Making Babies by Dr Geoffrey Sher (Copyright 2005). This book contains NEW information about IVF techniques and technology. KK "Current IVFer", if you received the older version of this book, when you thought that you had ordered this NEW edition, contact the Sher Institutes for Reproductive Medicine, Patient Resource Center at www.haveababy.com, I'll bet they'll be happy to replace your copy.
Out dated information and negative tone.
While this book provides a lot of technical information it was written over seven years ago. The information provided is practically ancient in the high tech and ever changing world of IVF. The author is very dry, clinical and frankly quite negative about the chances of success. Again, this is due to the age of the book. IVF success rates have increased dramatically since this book was published. A much better, positive, timely and accurate book is The Couples Guide to IVF. It was written in this century and it much more helpful, upbeat and informative.
Organized and informative
With IVF technology advancing so quickly, it's hard to find very up-to-date reading material on this subject. However this book is still a good reference and it's very organized and informative.
