Health Books about infertility

What is infertility?

The International Council on Infertility Information Dissemination (INCIID) considers a couple to be infertile if: they have not conceived after a year of unprotected intercourse, or after six months in women over 35; there is incapability to carry a pregnancy to term. Healthy couples in their mid-20s having regular sex have a one-in-four chance of getting pregnant in any given month. This is called "fecundity".

Reviews:

great book
This book has become my bible and I find myself referencing back to it pretty often. My friend (pregnant with triplets, donor eggs) told me about it. While it is true these authors didn't do IVF (like I am about to do), they talked to a lot of women who did....and women who used surrogates and donor sperm and adopted and everything. I really liked the question and answers with the egg donor...gave me a lot of insight. BUt the reason I keep going back to this book is because these women talk about IF like two good pals. Listen, one of them did all the shots, etc. and got no where.. I can relate to that!! Anyhow, it is funny in places, sad in places (I still tear up when I read about one author losing her unborn baby at 18 weeks) and VERY informative. I love the honesty about doctors here. Is it the medical be-all and end-all? No. But I have all the reference books. I just needed another perspective....and a laugh now and then from other women who have been there.. and how to deal with doctors and nosy in-laws! Check it out and see if you agree.

I hoped for more...
I had been so excited to read this book. I looked forward to hearing other women's views of infertility. But, I was very disappointed in it. The women focus a lot on weight. As a first time IVFer I was concerned enough about using injectibles and whether or not the cycle would result in a healthy baby. To hear these women -the weight would be the worst of the ordeal. They talked on and on about how much they gained. And yes I gained weight, but it is hardly what the process of IVF was all about. There was a lot of trivial talk about nonsense in this book. And in the end the women never pursued ART pocedures and wound up pregnant. I have sympathy for all women stuggling to have a baby. However, I find it difficult to take opinions about IVF from women who have not gone through the experience. I wish those of you trying to concieve the best of luck in your journeys. I didn't benefit from this book, but maybe you will.
This book is EXCELLENT!!!
I can't say enough good things about this book. It has so much information packed in-everything from what you go through with each kind of fertility treatment to the emotions involved in going through the hardship of infertility. It is written in such an easygoing way, like two of your best girlfriends sitting down to chat. I prefer this style of writing-it was comforting and I felt like I really knew these women and they wanted the best outcome for me. Both of them have gone through infertility so you feel like they are really on your side, and truly understand what you are dealing with. They know their stuff too-lots of research went into this book. I highly, highly recommend it to anyone suffering through infertility. It will give you hope!
It's all true!
I loved this book and highly recommend it to anyone who is experiencing infertility or is going through infertility treatments. I've been through a number of infertility treatments (IUI's, med's, IVF) and this book really brings it home and offers a lot of levity, which is such a plus for an emotional experience. It also offers several perspectives from husbands - a true bonus.
Wealth of info
After 1.5 years of trying to have a baby, millions of tests and nothing wrong...this book came out and cleared the clouds. I have learned of little idiosyncracies that i had no idea about, and came across questions I will now ask. It is as if your girlfriends are talking to you and you have these "ah ha" moments. Great comedy and a great way to learn.
